Warm Home Discount
Did you know that if you receive certain benefits you could get £140 off your electricity bill under the Government’s Warm Home Discount Scheme?
The 2019 to 2020 scheme opens on 14 October 2019. More energy suppliers – not just the major ones – are now required to offer the discount, benefiting
an additional 30,000 pensioners and vulnerable households by 2021.
Am I eligible?
If your supplier takes part in the scheme there are 2 ways to qualify:
If you were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit on 7 July 2019 and your name is on the bill, you are part of the ‘core group’.
You should automatically receive a letter before December 2019 telling you how to get the discount. If you do not receive a letter, but think you may be eligible, contact the Warm Home Discount Team.
If you’re on a low income or get certain benefits, you may be part of your supplier’s ‘broader group’. They decide who gets the discount and only help a fixed number of people. You do not automatically qualify so should apply as soon as possible after
14 October 2019 by contacting your supplier. You can often register your interest in the scheme online, through your supplier’s website.
What if I have a pre-payment
or pay-as-you-go meter?
You can still qualify if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter, but you may receive the discount in another way, for example vouchers that you can use to top-up your meter.
When will I receive the discount?
Your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill by 31 March 2020.
